This is the aging with disabilities phase 1 banner. The sub-title states: Development of a comprehensive knowledge-based framework to address the needs of Canadians with long-term disabilities who are aging. The banner contains 4 images: First a View of a visitable house with well-integrated sloping pathway from the street to the main entrance. A senior using a wheelchair is approaching his friend’s house.  This represents the housing component of project. Secondly, a senior is transferring out of his car into a wheelchair while a friend shields him with an umbrella from the rain. This represents the caregiving/home supports component of project. Next a senior walking his two dogs in a park like setting. This represents the community participation component of project. Finally, a visually impaired senior is waiting for public transportation with a city bus approaching behind her. This represents the transportation component of project.

Provincial Partner Terms of Reference

Goal: the intent of this partnership is that the organization serves as a partner in the project entitled ‘Development of A Comprehensive Knowledge-based Framework to Address the Needs of Canadians with Long-Term Disabilities who are Aging’ and that the project process and results will be mutually beneficial to both the provincial group and to CCDS.

  • To serve as the main contact point for the project in their province and serve as a liaison to the Project Team and National Advisory Committee

  • To facilitate discussions and meetings with the project Provincial Advisory group in identifying provincial specific issues, trends, gaps, best practices on the topic

  • To assist the Project Team:

  • In distribution of an on-line survey

  • With round tables and interviews to be held in the province (identifying individuals, organizational representatives and stakeholder groups; making logistical arrangements for round table events; assisting with the conducting of the round table events and providing the reports)

  • Provincial networking and information sharing

 For their assistance with the project, the provincial partner will receive $5000 to cover costs of the above tasks.

Advisory Committee Terms of Reference


1. The Provincial Advisory Committee (each in pilot province – British Columbia, Manitoba and Nova Scotia) to the “Development of Comprehensive Knowledge-based Framework to Addressing the Needs of Canadians with Long-Term Disabilities who are Aging” is established by and working closely with the Project implementation team who is responsible for project implementation.


2. The purpose/objective of the Provincial Advisory Committee is to:

  • Advise in the process of project implementation
  • Ensure the accuracy of the material/resource being developed with respect to Provincial situation
  • Ensure this resource does not duplicate what may already be available
  • Establish and facilitate Provincial network and sharing with other interested organizations
  • Monitor progress and provide updates and new developments in the Province
  • Advise on the participants for interviews, Round Tables, findings and final recommendations
  • Serve as a core group for inter-sectoral collaboration and inter-provincial sharing

3. The Committee shall consist of a Committee Chair and representatives from sectors:

  • Disability Policy
  • Senior Policy
  • Disability Community/organizations
  • Seniors Community/organizations
  • Experts in Disability and Aging
  • Provincial coordinating body (if any)
  • Specific target area (housing, transportation, supports/caregiving)
  • Where applicable an ODI representative (national Advisory Committee)

4. All Committee members are expected to participate in meeting discussions and provide pertinent and timely information to allow the project’s activities to proceed efficiently, as outlined in the detailed project plan.

5. The Provincial Advisory Committee will meet monthly, with regular inter-provincial communication via e-mail, listserv and monthly written communiqué
